Senior Experience Designer

We are looking for an experienced visual designer to help us deliver the next generation of customer experiences and digital self-serve websites. As a senior practitioner you will be involved in every stage of production from early discovery, sketching, UX design, creative, user interface design, design system engineering and frontend QA.

Our goal is to bring together creativity, engineering, and dynamism to simplify complex online experiences. This combination allows us to build at enterprise scale – inclusive for millions of customers – and still bring creativity and movement to make our work compelling.

You will be joining a progressive, cross-discipline, integrated frontend team delivering the next generation of performant, highly accessible user interfaces for our clients across regulated industries (finance, water, energy, manufacturing), as well as a number of established UK consumer brands and charities.

You will report to our Head of Frontend, and act as a Creative Lead on key projects; coordinating the internal team as well as external stakeholders towards successful design.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct design workshops according to strategic objectives and UX discovery outputs
  • Facilitate design brainstorming sessions and build consensus around design vision with stakeholders where required
  • Gather design research and workshop outputs to develop design insights that help to form the design language or style guide
  • Work closely with UX design to translate discovery deliverables (personas, content strategy, user journeys) into compelling visual design
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders for design concepts, user flows and use cases, both verbally and visually
  • Work closely with frontend developers to established principles of design system engineering that optimise the delivery of repeatable and reusable UI patterns
  • Consider both user needs and business goals, and translate insights into design concepts that create simplicity from system complexity; working closely with Business Analysis to ensure proposed UI and User Story acceptance criteria are aligned prior to development
  • Solicit feedback and iterate designs to represent the user’s interests; playing back internally and to clients as needed
  • Contribute to experience design standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the importance and priority of inclusive design and how this translates into creating compliant accessible (WCAG) digital experiences on the web
  • Lead in the governance of detailed design layouts or hi-fi prototypes, and prepare visual assets and accompanying documentation
  • Prepare visual prototypes for usability testing in appropriate tools (e.g. InVision) where needed
  • Assess usability test results and incorporate them into design iterations
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams that include other designers, solution architects, front-end and back-end developers, engineers, project managers, and others to ensure development adheres to UX design vision

  • Proven experience in defining user experiences across multiple mediums
  • Comfortable with sketching ideas (pen, paper, post-its, flipcharts)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present work to executives and large teams
  • Ability to articulate design rationales, defend design decisions
  • Attention to detail, with a can-do attitude
